Get Involved print

There are three ways for you to help the American Lung Association of Maryland achieve its mission of preventing lung disease and promoting lung health.

:: Volunteers
Volunteers help us all breathe easier! Ongoing volunteer needs include:

  • Administrative: We often find ourselves in need of someone to fulfill literature requests, maintain databases, do mailings for special events and other general clerical activities.

  • Special Events: Our cycling events, walks, comedy night, and 5K run depend on volunteers to help with planning and provide support for the event.

  • Health Fairs: Numerous health fairs are held in the community year-round. Volunteers help us out with these by staffing our display and representing our association.

  • Media Outreach: The Lung Association is a major source of information for radio, TV and newspaper reporters. We are looking for respiratory therapists, school nurses, pulmonary physicians and people with lung disease to share their experiences.

  • Speaking Engagements: We receive many requests each year for speakers to enlighten and educate audiences on the topics of tobacco and asthma.  If you have a story to tell about how tobacco or asthma has affected your life, or if you are a health educator who would like to volunteer time to a worthy cause, there is a group waiting to hear your message.

Check out other pages on our website for more details on programs and events, and email us at
volunteer@marylandlung.org about any of the above volunteer opportunities or other ideas on how you'd like to help.

:: E-Advocacy
Here’s a chance for your voice to be heard! The American Lung Association of Maryland encourages all citizens to become involved in advocating for policies that protect lung health and prevent lung disease. As a voter, you have the power to persuade your elected officials to support policies that protect your family's and your lung health. Tobacco smoke exposure continues to be a leading cause of death and no one should have to breathe tobacco smoke where they work or dine. Please join us in advocating for smoke-free environments for all Marylanders. As an e-advocate you can make your voice heard on this issue and others, including outdoor air quality and asthma. :: Contributions
Our Donations page offers many ways to make a financial contribution to the organization.  Click here to find out more about making a monetary or vehicular donation to the American Lung Association of Maryland.
